Soviet Ukrainian painter. Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Fedor Afanasyevich Samusev was born on September 6 (September 19, according to a new style) in 1913 in the village of. Novoraysk (Bryansk region of Russia). In 1937 he graduated from the Penza Art College, where he studied under N.F. Petrova, IS. Goryushkina – Sorokopudova. After his graduation he entered the Kiev State Art Institute, where he studied at AA Shovkunenko. During the Great Patriotic War he continued his evacuation training in the Ukrainian branch of the United Art Institute of the All-Russian Academy of Arts – first in Samarkand, then in Zagorsk near Moscow. After liberation, Kiev returned home where in 1945 he graduated from the Kiev Art Institute. Since 1945 – a participant in republican, all-Union and foreign art exhibitions.
One of the first large-scale exhibitions, in which FA Samusev took part, was an exhibition of works of Ukrainian Soviet artists, timed to the Day of the Miner. It was opened on August 31, 1952 in Donetsk, at the TG Shevchenko movie theater. Ninety-one artists participated in it, including the teacher of Fyodor Samusev, Alexei Shovkunenko. A total of one hundred fifty two works were exhibited at the exhibition. Samusev F.A. – Member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. Worked in the field of easel painting. Author of thematic paintings, portraits and landscapes. The main works: “The feat of sergeant Prikhodko” (1945), “In the days of October” (1947), “Success” (1954), “Milkmaids” (1957), “In a free moment” (1962), “Its fate” ( 1963), “Hero of the Soviet Union S. Tutchenko” (1964), “Meditations, Quest” (1969), “Architects” (1971), etc. The Ukrainian Academy of Arts and socio-political weekly “Zerkalo Nedeli” organized in August 1999 exhibition “Creativity of Ukrainian artists during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.” On it works of Samusev FA were presented. “View from Borichev current to the Intercession Church” and “Portrait of a sailor.” His works are kept in museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
