Soviet Ukrainian painter. Laureate of the Alexander Osmerkin Prize. Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Anatoly Gavrilovich Shapovalov was born on January 11, 1949 in the village of Ajamka (Kirovohrad region), where he graduated from the school, then entered the Odessa State Art School named after. M.B. Grekova. The teacher at A. G. Shapovalov was Tamara Ivanovna Egorova. After serving in the army, the artist entered the Kiev State Art Institute and from 1970-1976 studied at the KGKhI in the workshop of teachers Viktor Puzyrkov and Anatoly Plamenitsky. Upon graduation, he received a referral to the Kirovograd Art and Production Workshops, a branch of the Union of Artists of Ukraine.
