Ivan Petrov was born on October 7, 1924 in the village of Mironovka, Novo-Georgievsky district (Svetlovodsky district), Kirovograd region. Father – Petrov Semyon Ivanovich, mother – Petrova Lukia Mikhailovna, wife – Petrova Nina Petrovna (1926-1995) sculptor, daughter Petrova Olga Ivanovna – artist and Petrova Anna Ivanovna – artist monumentalist. Since 1932 the adolescent years of Ivan Petrov were held in the city of Izyum of the Kharkov region, in the homeland of the famous Ukrainian landscape painter Sergei Ivanovich Vasilkovsky, friend and fellow student of the Academy of Arts N. Samokish. The creativity of both painters had a significant impact on the choice of the life path of the young man, and in many respects on the formation of the artistic thinking of the future battalist.
