Soviet Ukrainian painter. Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Honored Artist of the USSR. Master of battle genre, the author of numerous dioramas in museums of Ukraine. Ivan Petrov was born on October 7, 1924 in the village of Mironovka, Novo-Georgievsky district (Svetlovodsky district), Kirovograd region. Father – Petrov Semyon Ivanovich, mother – Petrova Lukia Mikhailovna, wife – Petrova Nina Petrovna (1926-1995) sculptor, daughter Petrova Olga Ivanovna – artist and Petrova Anna Ivanovna – artist monumentalist. Since 1932 the adolescent years of Ivan Petrov were held in the city of Izyum of the Kharkov region, in the homeland of the famous Ukrainian landscape painter Sergei Ivanovich Vasilkovsky, friend and fellow student of the Academy of Arts N. Samokish. The creativity of both painters had a significant impact on the choice of the life path of the young man, and in many respects on the formation of the artistic thinking of the future battalist. In 1939, I. Petrov entered the Kharkov Art College. However, the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945 brought its corrections to his biography. In October 1941, together with all the students of the school was sent to the approaches to the city of Kharkov for the implementation of defensive lines. In November 1941 he was mobilized as a pre-conscript and evacuated to the city of Stalingrad. He graduated from the 4-month courses of industrial training as a turner in the factory of factory-factory training No. 20 in the city of Stalingrad. From June 25, 1942 to August 1942 he worked as a turner at the Stalingrad factory “Red October”. In August – September 1942 – submachine gunner of the Stalingrad Fighter Workers’ Battalion. From October 1942 to March 1943 – gunner guns of medium tanks 31 tank regiments. Heavy is shell-shocked. Prior to the post, the evacuation hospital was deemed to have been lost (notification of the Izyum Raion Military Commission of the Kharkov Region according to the order of the GUK-NCO No. 0127-43). In 1948, after graduating from the Kharkov College, he entered the Kiev State Art Institute (now the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture), which he graduated in July 1954, in the workshop of the historical and battle painting of Professor KD Trokhimenko, a student of NS. The samokish. In 1954, as one of the best graduates, was sent by the Ministry of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR to teach in the Crimean Art College NS. Samokisha, in which he taught until 1968.
