Soviet Ukrainian painter. Member of the USSR SS. People’s Artist of Ukraine. Born on February 27, 1931 in the village of. Lokhov Mukachevo district of the Transcarpathian region. In 1955 he graduated from the picturesque department of the Uzhgorod School of Applied Arts. Teachers in the specialty – I. Bokshay, A. Erdeli, F. Manaylo. Since 1957 Hertz Yu.D. – participant of regional, since 1967 – All-Ukrainian, since 1978 – international art exhibitions. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1969. Honored Artist of Ukraine since 1990.
Laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine named after T. Shevchenko for 1994. In 2003, Hertz Yuri Dmitrievich was awarded the title – People’s Artist of Ukraine. Disciple A. Erdeli, I. Boksha and F. Manaila. A vivid follower of the “Manail” tradition of spirituality and nationality in painting. Master of multi-figure genre compositions, natural and urban landscapes. A passionate painter of folk beliefs, rites, customs and everyday life of the Carpathian land. An artist of a unique and original style, whose multicolored paintings resemble magnificent stained glass windows and exquisite mosaics. Died September 15, 2012. Works of the artist are kept in museums and private collections of Ukraine and its borders.
