Soviet Ukrainian painter. Honored Art Worker of the Ukrainian SSR. Leonid Ilyich Chichkan was born on August 2, 1911 in Ekaterinodar (Krasnodar) in Russia. In 1933 he graduated from the Krasnodar Art College. From 1933 to 1941 he studied at the Kharkov Art Institute of SM. Prokhorov and MA Kozik. Member of the Great Patriotic War. Awarded the Order of Glory 3rd degree, medals. In 1945 he graduated from the Kiev Art Institute, where he studied in the studio of A.A. Shovkunenko. Since 1942, Chichkan L.I. participating in republican, all-Union and foreign art exhibitions. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Worked in the field of easel painting. Master of thematic painting, still life, landscape and portrait painting. The romantic beauty of the Carpathians, the strength and beauty of courageous, selfless and industrious locals is one of the main themes in the artist’s work. Since 1952 he taught at the Kiev Art Institute, since 1971 – Professor. Since 1969, L.I. Chichkan – Honored Art Worker of the Ukrainian SSR. He was awarded with the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. Works of the painter are represented in museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
