Bernadsky Valentin Danilovich

Soviet Ukrainian painter, landscape painter, master of the thematic picture. People’s Artist of the USSR. Member of the USSR Union of Artists. One of the founders of the modern Crimean art school. Valentin Danilovich Bernadsky was born on January 13, 1917 in the village of. Ozeryans of the Chernigov region. The first lessons of painting were received from the professor of the Leningrad Academy of Arts A. Eisner. From 1937 to 1940 he studied at the Leningrad Art College, but was thence excluded as the son of the enemy of the people. In 1940 he entered the Leningrad Academy of Arts (B.Ioganson’s studio) and after the first course for brilliant successes he was awarded a Stalin scholarship. In 1942, among the students of the Academy of Arts Valentin Bernadsky was evacuated to Samarkand, where he was drafted into the army. After the end of the military school of communication, he fought at the front. In 1945, after the Victory and mobilization, he continued his studies. After graduating from the Academy with a group of the best graduates (FZ Zakharov, NF Bortnikov, etc.) was sent by the Ministry of Culture of the USSR to the Crimea for teaching in the Crimean Art College. N.Samokish, where he taught in 1950-1952. Since 1951, he has been participating in art exhibitions in the city, regional, all-Union, and since 1983 and abroad (Great Britain, Japan, Greece, USA, France). Repeatedly held personal exhibitions of the artist. In 1958 he became a member of NSU. From 1970 to 1980 he was chairman of the board of the Crimean organization of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1976 he received the title of Honored Artist of the USSR, in 1989 – the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine, in 2003 – People’s Artist of Russia. In 2003, the Tretyakov Gallery hosted a solo exhibition of the artist. Since 2007 – Honored Art Worker of the ARC. Bernadsky V.D. – laureate of the State Prize of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Since 2009 – Honorary Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2010 he received the Gold Medal “For Contribution to the World Culture” of the International Fund “Cultural Heritage” (Russia). In 2011 he was awarded the badge of the ARC “For loyalty to duty”. The artist’s works are in museum and private collections in Ukraine, Russia, the USA, France, Holland, Great Britain. Lived and worked in Simferopol.
