Soviet Ukrainian painter. Member of the USSR Union of Artists, Mikhail Matveevich Balyasny was born on July 22, 1892 in Kharkov. From 1909 to 1911 he studied at the Kharkov Drawing School. The teachers are M. Berkos and M. Fedorov. Since 1927 – a participant in republican, all-Union and foreign art exhibitions. In 1937, the artist moved to Kiev. During the Great Patriotic War, he was evacuated to Siberia and continued to work as an artist. They created a large number of campaign posters and panels. After the war, M.M. Balyasnyy returned to Kiev. Worked in the field of easel painting. Master of the landscape. Member of the USSR Union of Artists. The main exhibitions: 1927 – the exhibition “The Artist Today”, the Museum. Artema, Kharkov; 1928 – The 1-st mobile art exhibition of the Kharkov branch of the Association of Artists of the Red Ukraine, Izyum, Akhtyrka, Sumy, Bogodukhov; 1929 – The 2nd mobile art exhibition of the Kharkov branch of the Association of Artists of Red Ukraine “Kultpohod na Donbass”, in various cities of Donbass; 1930 – The 2-nd All-Ukrainian Art Exhibition of the NARKOMPROSA USSR, Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Dnepropetrovsk, Kiev, Odessa, Nikolaev; 1935 – VI-th All-Ukrainian Art, Kiev, Odessa; 1939 – II-nd exhibition of works by Kiev artists, Kiev; 1940 – an exhibition of creativity of artists of the USSR (for the period 1936-1940), Lviv; 1941 – ІІІ-I reporting exhibition of works of artists of Kiev, Kiev State Museum of Russian Art; 1942 – “Artists of Siberia in the days of the Great Patriotic War”, Novosibirsk; 1943 – exhibition “The Heroic Past of the Russian Army”, District House of the Red Army, Novosibirsk; 1951 – exhibition of fine arts of the Ukrainian SSR to the decade of Ukrainian art and literature, State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow; 1952 – XIth exhibition of fine arts of the Ukrainian SSR, State Museum of Ukrainian Art, Kiev; 1957 – Jubilee Art Exhibition of the Ukrainian SSR, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, the Kiev State Museum of Ukrainian Art and the Kiev State Museum of Russian Art. The main works: “On the Barricades” (1927), “Frontier guards” (1937), “Autumn under Kiev” (1951), “Winter Landscape” (1951), “Autumn” (1956), “Above the Dnieper” (1959), “On the slopes of the Dnieper” (1988), “The Full-Spring Dnieper in the Spring” (1970), etc. The artist died on July 11, 1978. He was buried in the city of Kiev. Works of M.M. Balyasnoy presented in museum, gallery and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
