Outstanding Soviet Ukrainian master of the architectural landscape of the twentieth century, architect, graphic artist, teacher. Honored Artist and Architect of Ukraine. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1990). Member of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine (since 1955) and the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (since 1962). It is considered one of the best watercolors of the USSR. He was born in 1925. In 1950 he graduated from the architectural faculty of the Kiev Civil Engineering Institute. In 1955-1958 he studied at the graduate school of the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1964-1985 he worked as a teacher of the Kiev Civil Engineering Institute. Since 1984 he has been a teacher at the Kiev Art Institute (now the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture). Since 1989 he is a professor. Since the 1950s, Yuri Khimich’s solo exhibitions have been successfully held in Ukraine, Russia, Hungary, the USA. The artist’s works are kept in museums and private collections, in particular, the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, the US ambassadors to Ukraine William Miller (1993-1998) and Carlos Pasqual (2000-2003), American philanthropists Natalia Yaresko and Igor Figlyus. Khimich’s works are also reproduced on many thematic cards, calendars, postage stamps. Triptych Yuri Khimich “Independence Day” adorns the Capitol – the building of the US Congress in Washington.
