Soviet Ukrainian artist of decorative and applied art, ceramist. Honored Art Worker of Ukraine. Member of the USSR Academy of Arts. Born June 25 in 1940 in the village. Berezovitsya Mala on Zbarazhchin. In 1964 he graduated from the Lviv School of Applied Art named after I. Trush (Department of Ceramics). Here he met with the teacher – Taras Dragan. Their communication has turned into a long-term spiritual intimacy and a real friendship. In 1971 he graduated from the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts. In the end of 1970 a personal exhibition of the student took place in the city. Presented to them, the works revealed new possibilities of the old technique of the potter’s wheel, and brought expressive signs of ethnography. On the creative base in Dzintari (Latvia) his acquaintance from Peteris Martinson took place. From this time the artist’s work evolves as if in two directions. The first one represents bold experiments in the field of free form formation, officially banned in sculpture. The second is the ability to implement their own social and political beliefs and convey to the viewer in the original artistic form. In 1972 he became the first representative from Ukraine at the 3rd International Biennale in Vallorisi (France). And then – he receives honorable diplomas of competitions of art ceramics in Faenza (Italy, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1980). In the 1980s, the circle of creative interest of T. Levkiv reaches other spheres. The artist gives priority to cosmological motifs. He presents his works at 17 solo exhibitions, in particular in Tbilisi, Leningrad, Ternopil and other cities. The artist is a participant of 103 regional, national and international exhibitions (m. Tartu, Estonia, Osaka, Japan, Rzeszow, Poland, Moscow, Russia, etc.). For more than 20 years, Taras Bogdanovich has headed the ceramics department of Lviv College of Decorative and Applied Art named after I. Trush.
